My love and I rarely get to spend much time together during the week, so we took advantage of his day off on the fourth. We relaxed for most of it, and then decided to take a drive out to the Delaware Water Gap to do some exploring and find some wood for a fire later on in the evening.
There is so much to see out there, and we definitely had our fill. Backroading is a lot of fun, especially now that they have opened up more of the roads. So much had been closed due to Superstorm Sandy. But in our recent trips, we have seen more and more available to explore.
Before we knew it, Saturday had arrived and it was time to enjoy the Independence Day Celebration at West Point. With a view like this, who wouldn't endure the hot sun to enjoy these festivities?
It truly is a great evening with music from the West Point Band, the Hell Cats, and witnessing the induction of the new class. There is talent, history, and patriotism by the boatload and not one minute is boring.
The evening gets closed out by THE most spectacular fireworks display I have ever seen. So close, and in your face. Firey balls of light explode in between the mountains, fading into the the twinkling lights of the boats in the water below. It's the closest this city girl gets to laying "on a pillow of blue bonnets, in a blanket made of stars."
